چکیده

Diagnostic Approaches The basic approaches for laboratory viral diagnosis are the isolation of the virus, demonstration of the virus or some viral product in clinical specimens (direct methods), and detection and measurement of viral-specific antibodies (indirect methods). Each approach has its merits, but direct demonstration of the virus and/or viral products is the most effective and useful approach for routine diagnosis.

Virus-Cell Interactions and Viral Pathogenesis by D.J. Wise and G.R. Carter; A3404.0205

Interaction Between Viruses and Host Cells The interaction between viruses and their host cells is intimately tied to the replication cycle of the virus. Moreover, the interaction of virus with cellular components and structures during the replication process influences how viruses cause disease. Overall, there are four possible primary effects of viral infection on a host cell. Most infections...

General Characteristics, Structure and Taxonomy of Viruses by G.R. Carter, D.J. Wise and E. Furtado Flores; A3401.1204

Viruses are much smaller than prokaryotic or eukaryotic cells. Unlike cells, they have a generally simple and static structure. They have no metabolic system of their own. They depend upon the machinery of the host cell for replication (obligate intracellular parasites). They have either DNA or RNA genomes, but lack ribosomes and other factors needed for translation. Thus, they are dependent on...
